  • The application is targeted at a scientific user community that uses high-end optical stimulation of brain cells. This is a new technology with many exciting possibilities!
  • It calculate the amount of light required for activating or shutting down neurons with light, we apply a set of equations that take into account the wavelength, light power and delivery method (type of optical fiber), in addition to the choice of molecular tools, that each have their own power requirements.

    • The iPhone app have these buttons at the bottom:

    • Parameters : opens a screen in which the user inputs their light wavelength, power and optical fiber properties.
    • Opsin: opens a screen that enables the user to choose which molecular tool is used, and displays several pre-set properties for the selected tool.
    • QuickCal: provides the results from the calculation based on all the above inputs, such as power as a function of depth and the shape of the light cone as a function of optical fiber properties
    • Beam : shows a 2-D graphical representation of the shape of the light beam.
    • FAQ : retrieves an HTML page from a server with details on the app and its use
    • Settings : allows the user to customize the parameters used in the equations on which the calculations are based.
